PHC French Horn Mouthieces |
PHC French Horn mouthpieces were originally known by the name Paxman Halstead Chidell-London.
This unique range of two-piece French Horn mouthpieces was born out of the collaboration in 1971 between Anthony Halstead and Anthony Chidell who were the first and second horns of the London Symphony Orchestra at the time.
Throughout their distinguished professional careers they have continued to develop and improve the PHC range in response to requests, feedback and encouragement from horn players the world over. The current range consists of 15 basic cups and 12 rims, giving a combination of 540 different mouthpieces in the standard range.
During the development of the range it was decided to experiment with normalization of the materials cups were made of. This led to the design and release of the much heralded Z cup range. Further experimentation with weight has also delivered heavy cup models of both standard and Z cup models with their inherent focussed sound properties.
All cups and rims are available in gold or silver plate and all the rims are now also available in white acetyl (plastic) and Crystalin (™clear plastic). White acetal and Crystalin have the advantage of being hypoallergenic and have a more constant temperature and a unique 'soft' feel.
PHC now offer a custom model service. Customers can request a variation of a particular model or can supply their own mouthpiece for measuring and producing into a PHC cup and rim. This then allows them to experiment by interchanging with any of the vast PHC range of cups and rims.
At the start of 2009 HornCups UK Ltd, the company which owns PHC, passed into the sole control of Anthony Chidell. Tony has made considerable investment in the manufacture and stock of the product. All models are now in stock and available worldwide.
